Dear 5th Ward Neighbor

I am running for City Council from the Fifth Ward so that Ann Arbor will be a vibrant, sustainable, and diverse community far into the future.  We are at a crossroads in setting directions for our city. City Council is making crucial decisions that will affect our financial viability, our quality of life, and the vitality of our city for years to come.

My vision for Ann Arbor is:

  • A city where citizens are actively engaged in setting future direction
  • A beautiful, human-scale place to live with historic buildings and green spaces as well as thoughtfully designed new spaces
  • Residential and commercial areas that are accessible by foot, bicycle, and public transit
  • Diverse local businesses that serve the community and provide jobs
  • A community with active volunteers who are committed to social equity
  • Friendly neighborhoods with people from every walk of life and of all ages
  • A thriving arts culture bringing fresh ideas and excitement
  • A city with food security and access to fresh local food for all
  • A community with a strong environmental ethic committed to long-term stewardship of the natural world around us

I am running in this election because I am concerned that Ann Arbor is moving away from these important aspects of community. When I hear people say "Ann Arbor is changing, but not for the better," I believe it is a call to action.

With my depth of experience in local government, my commitment to environmental stewardship, and my passion for the long-term health of this community, I believe we need to protect what's best about Ann Arbor and to take the long view in considering changes.  My goal is to put the city back on a path where citizen engagement and quality of life matter.

If you share my vision for Ann Arbor and my goals, please cast your vote for me August 5, 2008.
